Few people realize the increase in fuel economy that can be acheived by
following a few maintenance tips and changing a few driving habits! |
|
Tire Pressure: |
Under-inflated tires require much more energy to push down the road than
correctly inflated tires. By keeping your tires correctly inflated will increase
your fuel efficientcy noticably. |
|
Tune up: |
Worn spark plugs, worn plug wires, dirty air filter, dirty carburetor or
injectors, and other 'easy to fix' components could be wasting lots of dollars. |
|
Maintenance: |
Is your engine light on? This could indicate something simple (like a bad gas
cap) or more major that could be robbing your of the milage that your car could get if the
item was repaired. Faulty gas caps can often lead to fuel evaporation. Items
like EGR valves or engine sensors can have profound effects on fuel milage. |
|
Allignment: |
A car whose wheels are out of allignment requires much more energy to push down
the road. A wheel alignment could save lots of dollars. |
|
Air Conditioner: |
It has been proven more efficient to operate the air conditioner at highway
speeds and keep your windows rolled up. The aerodynamic drag of the car with the
windows down requires more fuel than it takes to operate the air conditioner. |
|
Driving habits: |
Jack rabbit starts, not maintaining a
constant speed, and other poor driving habits is a huge fuel waster. Excellerate
slowly from stops and maintain a constant speed. Avoid excessive and frequent
braking. |
|
Take care of your car: |
Keep the oil changed. Old oil looses the friction fighting ability. Use good
oil. Keep your fluids
up and frequently check wear items like belts. |
